New Year- New Mind Part 2

Handling life’s disappointments is not easy. It’s common to let our thoughts run away with us and allow them to turn into fear and worry. The keys to renewing your mind is:

Hope is the stepping stone to faith

We glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s lovehas been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us. -Romans 5:12

Having hope through disappointment is a heavy thing to ask of someone. It is difficult to hope for something when circumstances are not hopeful. To get out of a mind of disappointment we need to ask God for something to hope for. It doesn’t have to be big- just a small step toward faith.

Make room in your life for solitude and quiet 🤫

It’s amazing how clear things are in the quiet times. How often do we allow noise to distract us from being alone with our thoughts? In those quiet times we have an opportunity to examine what thoughts we produce. Do they produce pain? Anxiety? Fear? Hope? Some of our beliefs are formed subconsciously because we don’t pay attention to our thought life. 

Examine what you believe and why you believe it.

Beliefs are a funny thing. What we truly believe, we will act on. If you have a hard time acting on a promise that God gave you, it’s probably because you have a belief that contradicts what God said. We struggle to act on the belief that God will take care of our every need according to His riches. If we believed it, we wouldn’t have so much anxiety and worry.

Find the initiation point where a negative belief was formed.

That negative belief often comes from a painful event in your past or a time you felt let down by your circumstances. For example, if you had a father that was passive, you might have formed a belief that God is passive and will not intervene when you ask Him to. There might be a specific memory that brings up the pain of being let down. 

Ask Jesus to come heal the pain from any specific memory

Forgive someone if necessary, and come out of agreement with the false belief. This is an important step because your body is holding on to the emotion and in order for it to be released from your body, you need to come out of agreement with it.  Ex: Jesus, please heal the pain I am experiencing from when _______________________ happened to me. I forgive all those who were involved in causing this pain whether it be knowingly or unknowingly. I release my right to retaliate and punish them. I come out of agreement with the belief that ___________________________. I release the belief that God will not intervene on my behalf when I call to Him. 

Replace the negative belief with God’s truth and use scripture to back it up.

Ex: I believe that God will intervene in my time of trouble. I believe that God wars on my behalf. 

This is the process that I use with my clients in inner healing sessions, and give as homework. You can do this on your own- you just need to make the time and space for it in your life. That is the most difficult part of the process. But it’s an important one and you will feel so much better if you do it!
